The competition project concerns the expansion of the existing Modern Art Gallery on Teatralny Square. The proposed building form is a simple “box,” covered with ash-colored marble, which references the current structure. The form is uniform but reveals its secrets in selected places, creating a unique space for art. The expansion connects existing elements with new ones by rearranging the entrance area of the existing building and placing a reception area for the entire facility within it.
On the corner of the block, a “common area” is being created, housing the main vertical communication core of the Gallery. The heart of the project is a naturally lit exhibition hall with external access, as well as a library illuminated by a skylight. The design combines the old and the new, creating a space for the development of art.
